Bluetooth Smart, also known as Bluetooth Low Energy or Bluetooth 4.2, is the wireless protocol used to connect to your ilumi Smartbulbs. The good thing about Bluetooth Smart, is that most mobile devices today also include Bluetooth Smart connectivity. For you, this means all you need is your ilumi Smartbulbs and the ilumi app. No Wi-Fi, hubs, bridges, or other complications required.
We've also built out Bluetooth Smart meshing using ilumi's exclusive MeshTek technology, meaning each ilumi also speaks to each other to pass on commands and extend the range. Most mobile devices have a Bluetooth range of about 100 feet and each ilumi can extend that to any other ilumi within about 50 feet.
